Electric Vehicle User Behavior: An Analysis of Charging Station Utilization in Canada

For a user-centered deployment of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) infrastructure, it is vital to understand user charging behavior. This study identifies behavioral patterns by analyzing data from more than 7000 stations in Canada, comparing residential vs. public Level 2, and direct current fast (DCFC) 2 charging. A novel algorithm, CHAODA, was applied identify differences between DCFC other options. Through multivariate holistic methodology, various emerge, identifying the utilization seasonality different EVSE types. The provides evidence an “EV Duck Curve” that amplifies baseline power production “Duck Curve,” confirming future challenges for grid stability. Implementations this can support infrastructure planning efforts help improve overall service
